Best Doughnuts in Las Vegas 2016

What could be better than a pillowy and sweet doughnut with a delicious glaze and creative toppings and fillings. You can’t beat a classic, but the wave of creative gourmet doughnuts are sweeping the nation. Doughnut shops like Voodoo and Blue Star from Portland, Oregon are changing the way we see the light little cakes with holes in the middle.

For the longest time Pinkbox Doughnuts monopolized the gourmet doughnut market in Las Vegas, and they set a pretty high standard for others to have to reach. Recently though in the past 2 years a lot of competition have moved in next door and are doing great work at knocking Pinkbox off their throne. For years I have been a true believer in the amazingness of Pinkbox, and until recently i thought they were the best i had ever had. They will always be my favorite in my heart, but my stomach and senses have found a new number one. So I hope you enjoy this recent sugar high doughnut adventure that I have embarked on to write this article.

1. Glaze Doughnuts

The new champ is here! I thought that the guy at the counter was being a little cocky when he said they were the best doughnuts in Vegas, but after trying them he made me a believer. Glaze Doughnuts is only 9 months old, but man can they produce one amazing doughnut. I can truly say it is the softest, fluffiest, and most well produced doughnut in Vegas. For most of their doughnuts their isn’t really a lot of flash. They have basic glazes and toppings, but everything they do they do it well. We tried their Cinnamon swirl, Blueberry crunch, Maple Bacon, and Peanut butter. The Cinnamon swirl reminds you of the old fashion donuts. The base for the other 3 were all their heavenly and airy doughnuts. The blueberry wasn’t overly sweet and vibrant with blueberry flavor. The bacon on the Maple Bacon doughnut wasn’t super smokey like most of the doughnut shops have on theirs. And Reeses Pieces, peanut butter, and chocolate, what more do I have to say. For those that live in Vegas or those that are visiting and love doughnuts, i recommend this shop above all else.

2. Pinkbox Donuts

When it comes to edgy flavor combinations for donuts i still believe that Pinkbox  is the best at that. The doughnut shop that is said to have started the doughnut revolution in Las Vegas. Their Summerlin location is one of the only 24 hour gourmet doughnut locations in Vegas, which pretty much guarantees that whatever time you are going their you will get some of their freshest doughnuts. Their fresh made jam in their jelly doughnut is the best i’ve ever had. Their Fat Elvis which is inspired by Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich which was a fried peanut butter banana sandwich would have made him proud. The fresh strawberries on their strawberry shortcake makes for a beautifully light and slightly sweet doughnut. And for one of the most interesting doughnuts that you will ever try I recommend their Nutty Pig, which is filled with Bavarian cream and topped with maple icing, chewy dates, smokey bacon, almonds, blue cheese and a hint of balsamic glaze. It is overwhelming in the best way possible.

3. Donut Mania

Another recent new comer in the Las Vegas gourmet doughnut market, Donut Mania joined the scene a year and a half ago. For this tasting i visited their Henderson location which opened up only 6 months ago. Donut Mania is very similar to Pinkbox in both creativity and quality. All of their doughnuts are well produced, the best of them all was their glazed crodough. It was a perfect combination of a buttery croissant and glazed doughnut; I would consider it the best made cronut in Las Vegas. Their jelly filled doughnut, similar to Pinkbox, has a fresh made raspberry jam inside. Most jelly donut have that artificial tasting jelly inside, but not the ones at Donut Mania and Pinkbox theirs set them apart. This jam also works well in their PBJ donut, which with the creamy peanut butter on top reminds of eating the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Another one of their many spotlights is their Nevadan Donut. The Nevadan Donut is a bavarian cream filled donut topped with butterscotch glaze and toasted coconut.

4. Ace Donuts

Ace Donuts takes the classics and brings them into the modern age. Like Glaze Donuts they do a blueberry donut that has the full flavor of fresh blueberries. The glaze donut reminds you of the classic krispy cream donut. The donut that stood out to me the most was their Cinnamon and sugar cronut. The cronut reminded me of a combination of a croissant, donut and a coffee cake. I loved the idea of putting the streussel toping around the glazed cronut, well done Ace well done.

5. Al’s Donuts

7am-2pm

Al’s Donuts has been serving Las Vegas customers since the 70’s, and i can see why. They do a lot of the classics right, and they joined the modern trend of cronuts. My favorite thing that I had tried was their Cronut with maple glaze and filled with bavarian cream. I lucked out and got there as they were coming out of the oven, nothing better than a fresh out of the oven pastry. The cronut reminded me of a pillsbury toaster pastry, it brought me back to my childhood.

They are know as one of the most awarded Donut Shops in the nation, and they brought their shop to Downtown Las Vegas to help with its continuous resurgence. Donut Bar produces large and in charge unique flavor donuts. Two of their most popular would be their Creme Brulee donut with the classic caramelized sugar on top and cream on the inside, and their big popa tart donuts. 7. Dee’s Donuts

A family owned donut shop doing the classics well. The very nice guy behind the counter gave me three donut holes for free along with my half dozen donuts that i ordered. If you are getting less than a dozen expect the donuts to come in a brown paper bag. Can’t go wrong with a classic maple bar, apple filled, Boston cream or jelly filled.

I haven’t really run into issues thus far. I use hostgator as my hosting site, and they tend to take care of all of the issues before i even notice them. what host site do you use?
